Daijiworld Media Network - Karwar (SP)

Karwar, Jan 24: The state high court has issued interim stay order for the second phase development works undertaken at Karwar commercial port under the ambitious 'Sagarmala' project of the union government.

A division bench of the high court, which took up public interest litigation filed by Baitakhol Port Displaced Mechanized Boat Fishermen's Cooperative Society, heard arguments and counter arguments, before granting interim stay.

The bench ordered that the path laid in the middle of the beach in spite of orders against it by State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and Karnataka Pollution Control Board, has to be demolished and the port area should be restored to its previous level.

The court, after ordering to issue notices to the defendants, adjourned hearing to February 26.
