Media Release
Mangaluru, Oct 22: On October 22, Johnlyn Toy Exchange & Book Bank (JTEBB) delivered its second consignment of books to four educational institutions located in Bondel and nearby. This time around, over 2,000 books were distributed among the participating institutions – MGC PU College, St Lawrence English Medium High School, Besant Institute of PG Management Studies (all in Bondel), and St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor. The four institutions had previously been presented 1,500 books relevant to their study focus.
The book collection and donation was part of the mission of JTEBB launched by John B Monteiro, veteran journalist and author, with the aim of collecting toys and books from those who have and no longer need them and channelling them to those who have no access to them – like children in orphanages and ashrams.
On review of its operations over the last 22 months, the JTEBB core group has decided to shed the book collection/donation part of its mission and concentrate on the collection of toys and allied playthings to present them to deprived children in orphanages, ashrams, etc., who, in Mangaluru and its suburbs alone, total about 2,200. Therefore, the new name will be Johnlyn Toy Exchange, and it will concentrate exclusively on the collection and distribution of toys.
John Monteiro thanks all those who have generously donated books and toys to JTEBB. His gratitude also goes out to Karnataka Agencies for the transport support provided and to Rahul Advertisers for help in media promotion gratis. He requests enlightened and generous citizens to continue donating toys, children’s books and playthings, all in presentable condition, which can be deposited in the drive-in basement of Johnlyn Cottage, Vijaya Bank Lane, Bondel Junction, Mangaluru - 575008.
