Kaup, Oct 14: The Kaup police have succeeded in arresting two persons who have been accused of yanking away gold chain worn by a woman around her neck. The arrests were made at Katapadi on Saturday October 12.
The arrested persons happen to be Krishna Narasimha Shastri (27) from Raichur district who currently resides at Palligudde Katapadi, and Vijay Kumar (21) from Bagalkot, who currently resides at Bengaluru. On being produced in court, they were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
Shanta Acharya, residing at Innanje Golikatte Moodumane was going to fetch grass for her cows on October 8 when two persons travelling by a motor bike had snatched away her gold chain. A case in this connection had been registered in Kaup police station.
The police recovered a gold chain worth Rs 50,000, a Honda Shine motor bike, apart from two mobile phones and Rs 10,000 in cash. Total value of items seized total up to Rs 93,000.
Both Shastri and Kumar were engaged in predicting the future of the people. While Shastri was functioning in Udupi and surrounding areas since several years, Vijay Kumar, who is from the same profession, is now functioning at Bengaluru. Their arrests were made on the basis of CCTV footage captured at various places. The fact that one of the numbers of the vehicle registration numbers was not properly visible, helped the police to identify the motor bike.
The operation was conducted under the directions of superintendent of police, Nisha Names and additional superintendent of police, Kumarachandra, and guidance of Karkala assistant superintendent of police, K Krishnakanth, by Kaup police circle inspector, Mahesh Prasad, sub-inspector, Rajashekhara B Saganur, apart from probationary sub-inspector, Udayaravi, Sadashiv Gavaroji and Mahadev Bhosle.
