Hassan, Oct 14: In an incident which came into the open on Sunday, October 13 afternoon, a young couple jumped into a pond and ended their lives.

After seeing that two bodies were floating in Doddakere pond located in front of Lord Ayyappaswamy shrine at Laxmipuram extension of Sakleshpur town on Sunday, the locals conveyed information to the police. The bodies were identified to be belonging to Pallavi from Kattibail village near Gonibeedu in Moodigere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district, and Praveen from Harle Kudige village of Sakleshpur taluk in Hassan district.

The police found a vanity bag near the spot where the bodies were found and saw that a Karnataka bank Gonibeedu branch deposit challan, two cellphones and photos of the deceased were kept inside. They called the family of Pallavi and got to know what would have happened. The boy is said to be the son of Pallavi's maternal uncle.

It is learnt that the two had left Dharmasthala and arrived at Sakleshpur and ended their lives on the night of October 11 or early hours of October 12. It is guessed the young lovers took a decision to end their lives as both the families were opposed to their alliance, and this promoted the young lovers to commit suicide.

A case was registered in Sakleshpur town police station and the investigation is on.
