Sullia: Teenager rescues friend in distress - Meets watery grave

Sullia, Oct 14: In an incident which happened on Sunday, October 13, a teenager who rushed to help his friend in distress drowned in Ubaradka rivulet.

The victim of this incident was Yashwith (15), son of Harish Gowda, an auto-rickshaw driver from Kamiladka near Duggaladka. He was a first-year PU student.

It is said that Yashwith and three others had entered the rivulet to take bath. One of them, Kiran, was drowning, having been unable to reach safety. Yashwith and other two boys rushed to his help and succeeded in saving him. At this point, it is said, Yashwith lost his balance and fell into the rivulet where the water level is very deep. As none of the youngsters knew how to swim and there were no houses nearby and they could not get timely help.

After the police arrived, arrangements were made to recover the body from the depths of the rivulet. The deceased boy is survived by parents and an elder brother. A case of unnatural death was registered in Sullia police station.
