Mangaluru, Oct 12: “Tradition, culture and history are on the way of extinction today in the name of modernity. A bold step becomes a strong foundation for the progress of a person or a community. Therefore, it is inevitable for youth to know our arts, literature and culture,” said marketing manager of Daijiworld, Praveen Tauro. He was speaking after inaugurating seminar of recording oral history held by Rani Abbakka Tulu Research Center.
“An amazing world of representing our culture and tradition is formed in Sanchayagiri. The task of professor Tukaram couple that the country is proud of is commendable. It is necessary to record oral history at this juncture and the seminar is held in that direction,” he said.
Gajendra V Edike, controller of weights and measures, Karnataka government, who was the chief guest said that it is necessary to present the museum under educational tourism. “The organisation should grow as the cultural ambassador of Tulunadu,” he said.
Professor Wilfred Prakash D’ Souza, principal in charge, government college, Bantwal explained the way the organization grew, preparations for silver jubilee and the purpose of recording oral history. He welcomed the guests.
UAE Kannada and Tulu language cultural ambassador Sarvotham Shetty, Prof Maria Jacintha Furtado, secretary of Udupi district lecturer’s forum, Prof Santhosh B, secretary, Dakshina Kannada District Lecturers' Association and Prof Rajendra Rai, convener, Kasargod District History Lecturers' Forum, spoke on the context.
Professor Tukaram Poojary who presided over the seminar speaking of recording oral history said that it will be useful to fill the gap in the preparation of classical history. He explained with examples that many records that are not available in written form may be available in oral history.
