Udupi, Oct 10: Paschima Jagara Pooja, which is done on the early morning even before the sun rises started on Wednesday, October 9 on the day of Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwayuja Masa. The ritual was conducted by Sri Vidhyadheesha Teertha Swamiji.
With the addition of Paschima Jagara Pooja with the usual 14 types of Poojas that are offered to Lord Krishna in the Math, the number of Poojas offered will be 15 for the next one month. This will end on the Uttana Dwadashi.
The Paschima Jagara Pooja will be held after the Nirmaalya, Ushakaala and Akshayapatre Poojas followed by Panchmrita Abhisheka. During the Paschima Jagara Pooja lamps will be lit in and around the sactum sanctorum of the Math. A special kind of Surya trumpet will be blown on this occasion. The Paryaya Swamiji will offer Koormarati to Lord Krishna first and then proceed to do the Aarati to Lord Mukyaprana, Madhwacharya and Garuda.
Later Udwarthana, Kalasha, Theertha, Alankara, Avasara Kanakadi Pooja and Mahapooja will be held. In the evening, Chamara Seve, Ratripooja, Ashtavadhana Pooja and Shayanotsava will be held as usual.
This special pooja that is undertaken a month before the completion of Chaturmasya is also called Paschima Jagara Pooja. As this pooja is offered at Brahmi Muhurtham, the time when the birds wake up, this name is given. This pooja is offered for the love of Goddess Laxmi and also to wake up the Lord, who is in Yoganidra, on Uttana Dwadashi as per tradition.
