Bengaluru, Oct 4: A 28-year-old CEO of a Bengaluru-based startup was arrested by the police on Thursday for allegedly posting obscene photos of his former girlfriend on Instagram.
The person is identified as Rahul Singh.
The woman, on September 12, had filed a complaint against Rahul for stalking her and gaining illegal entry into her house after they broke up. She accused Rahul of accessing her Facebook account without her permission and stealing her phone, in her complaint.
In spite of the complaint, Rahul posted the woman’s obscene pictures.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bengaluru South East Isha Pant has confirmed the arrest. She said that Rahul’s laptop and mobile phone have been seized and Rahul would be produced in court soon.
Rahul was earlier booked under relevant sections of Information Technology Act and sections 354A (punishment for sexual harassment), 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354D (punishment for stalking), 448 (punishment for house-trespass) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC.
After posting obscene pictures, sections relating to punishment for violation of privacy and transmitting images of private persons without his/her consent have been booked.
Speaking to media, the complainant alleged that her family was warned of repercussions by father of the accused for filing the earlier FIR. She also told that the police were initially reluctant to take action.
The woman’s lawyer told media that the accused hails from an influential family. The woman's earlier complaint was taken lightly. There is a constant and continuous threat to the woman’s life, it is alleged.
