Mangaluru, Sep 18: This year marks the 150th year of the Periodic Table.
To mark this milestone, the department of Chemistry, St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized an exhibition on September17. Sr Jeswina, the principal and Dr Jayantha H former HOD of Chemistry, St Agnes College inaugurated the event.
Sr Venissa, vice principal and Dr Ita D’Souza, IQAC coordinator were the other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
The chief guest Dr Jayantha H enlightened the students about the concepts of Science and the significance of the periodic table in our lives. Periodic table and its elements are inevitable to Science students and Science enthusiasts.
Royston, one such science enthusiast recited the entire periodic table from his memory leaving the audience enthralled.
A video explaining the history of the periodic table was shown. This helped the students understand the events that led to the discovery of the modern periodic table. The I, II and III year degree Chemistry students presented creative models and charts that highlighted the periodic table and its interesting aspects.
Shamna compered the programme and Pavithra proposed the vote of thanks. The exhibition was open to all school students and was well appreciated.
