Moga, Apr 22: The Punjab Police have arrested two individuals and initiated a probe following the discovery of a leaked WhatsApp chat detailing plans to attack Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The plot was uncovered through screenshots from a WhatsApp group allegedly connected to MP Amritpal Singh, currently imprisoned in Dibrugarh, Assam.

An FIR was filed at the Cyber Crime police station in Moga, citing sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the IT Act, including provisions related to cybercrime and anti-national activities.

The investigation into the leaked chats led the police to identify the creators of the WhatsApp group “Waris Punjab De Team,” which reportedly has over 600 members and is linked to anti-national activities. Among the arrested are Lakhdeep Singh Sardargarh from Bathinda and Pawandeep Singh from Moga. The group is alleged to have plotted violence against prominent political figures such as Amit Shah, Bittu, Majithia, and Parminder Singh Talwara. The group’s discussions also involved sensitive matters, including foreign funding, arms procurement, and the dissemination of inflammatory content.

The chat revealed intentions to target political leaders due to their opposition to Amritpal Singh’s detention. Ravneet Singh Bittu, whose grandfather Beant Singh, the former Punjab Chief Minister, was assassinated by terrorists, has previously faced threats from Amritpal’s supporters. In addition, Bittu is accused by Amritpal’s associates of playing a role in his detention.

In response, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia shared audio recordings in which Amritpal Singh allegedly admits to ties with gangsters and involvement in criminal activities. Majithia has called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe, and has voiced concerns over the political influence over the Punjab Police, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of failing to act promptly.

Amritpal’s alleged ties to notorious gangsters such as Jaipal Bhullar, Arsh Dalla, and Harwinder Rinda, as well as his involvement in illicit activities, have sparked further controversy. Majithia has labeled Amritpal as a “dhongi” (fraud) and condemned his past associations with the Congress party.

With both state and national security agencies now involved, authorities have heightened security around the individuals targeted in the leaked chat.
