Bantwal, Sep 12: A boatman rescued a 70-year-old woman, who would have lost her life in Netravati River.

The incident happened in Kadeshivalaya, Bantwal on Thursday. Manjakka from Ramakunja, Kadaba, is the lady who was rescued. Abbas, from Kadeshivalaya, a boatman who ferries people across the river, saved her life.

“I saw something floating in the river, when I was waiting for people to board the boat at around 8 am. I saw a woman sinking in river and I rowed my boat towards her. She was being carried away in the strong water current. I rescued her and the person named Keshava helped me to bring her up. Uppinangady police were informed subsequently, who visited the spot and took Manjakka with them,” said Abbas.
