Mandya, Sep 7: In a shocking incident, a labourer killed his employer, as he refused to pay his wage of Rs 100.
The murder happened at Kotahalli village, K R Pete taluk in the district. The deceased employer is identified as 40-year-old-Basavaraju.
Basavaraju had engaged labourers in his fields and promised them a wage of Rs 400. However, when the time came for payment, he paid Rs 300 and kept Rs 100 pending. Labourer Basavaraj who met Basavaraju near a shop, asked for the payment of the balance Rs 100.
This enraged the employer and this led into heated arguments, which soon turned into a physical fight. Meanwhile, the shop keeper also spoke in support of the labourer. The fight between the three became more violent.
Worker Basavaraj in a fit of rage, picked a tool used to pull sugarcane sticks, from a nearby parked lorry and assaulted Basavaraju. Seriously injured Basavaraju was rushed to the hospital, but he died without responding to treatment. Accused Basavaraj has fled. A case in this connection is registered in Kikkeri police station. Police have launched a manhunt for Basavaraj.
