Brahmavar, Aug 30: A case is registered in the Brahmavar police station in which a person has accused another of cheating him by showing government land as his own.

Ananda S Shetty (58), a native of Salikere Petemane of the taluk, residing in Dubai had given Rs two lac as advance in 2017 to Jayrama Shetty (61), a resident of Havanje under an agreement to buy agricultural land from him at the rate of Rs 30,000 per cent on a deal worth Rs 30 lac. Ananda Shetty had promised to pay the remaining Rs 28 lac during the registration of the land.

In 2019, when Ananda Shetty came to his native on vacation and asked the accused Jayarama Shetty of getting the land registered, Jayarama Shetty was found to simply pass time and not respond to the demand of Ananda Shetty. Later, when Ananda Shetty inquired about the said property, in the panchayat office, he came to know that the said land belonged to the government and not owned by any private individual.

When Ananda Shetty asked Jayarama Shetty to pay back his advance money, Jayarama Shetty is alleged to have threatened him with dire consequences. Police are investigating further.
