Mangalore, Jun 19: In a reprieve to the policemen, the third judicial first class (JMFC) court here granted another extension to the policemen till July 3 for filing their report on a case pertaining to the alleged 'Talibanization' remark passed by the then union minister Renuka Chowdhury against the city and its citizens.
It may be recalled, that the court had entertained a complaint filed by former City Corporation mayor Ganesh Hosabettu and others against the said union minister through their counsel P P Hegde, after Chowdhury had failed to reply to the legal notice served on her. The court had instructed the Kankanady policemen to register a case under sections 153 (a), (b) and 505 of Indian Penal Code. The policemen had been given time till March 20 last to submit their report.
The policemen have since sought extensions on March 20, April 21 and again in May. The last extension ended on June 16. When the case had last come up on May 20, the court had expressed its displeasure at the delaying tactics employed by the police department, and had ordered issuance of notices to the policemen.
