Mangalore, Jun 18: The Leonard Cheshire Disability International (LVD) Partner’s Meet was held at Summer Sands Beach Resort, Ullal, here, from Monday June 8 to Saturday June 13.
Thirty five delegates from all the 25 Cheshire Homes of India, as also delegates from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka participated in this LCD Partner’s Meet.
During the entire week, discussions and deliberations took place on what best efforts could be put in to improve the living conditions of the concerned, as also empower the disabled with livelihood programmes.
The programmes were jointly organized by LCD National Council of India and South Asia Regional Organization (SARO) Bangalore.
The city unit of Cheshire Homes of India chairperson Wilma Aranha welcomed the delegates and exhorted them to interact with the committee and the inmates. They were later asked to go round the Home and see for themselves the improvements and activities of the Home.
LCD National Council chairman P M John and Bangalore SARO chairman K R Rajendra along with his office team were present. City Cheshire Home founder member and past president Octavia Albuquerque was also present.
Former union minister for labour Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom Fernandes were present on Friday June 12, to award certificates to all the participants of the meet, with a vibrant call to do their best for the differently-abled.
P M John, K R Rajendra and rest of the delegates appreciated and promised help and whole hearted co-operation from their side, whenever needed. They were appreciative of the wonderful work done by the Committee and the sisters who take care of the residents at the Home.
