Mangaluru: Mechanical students of MITE bags ‘KSCST best project of the year’ award

Mangaluru, Aug 1: A team of mechanical engineering students of Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE) has won coveted Best Project of the year’ award in the 42nd State Level Students Project programmeorganized by Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology (autonomous body of IISc, Bangalore) held at Belagavi on July 26 and 27. The team comprised of Bhargava K, Ashrith, Kadabageri Manjunath and Sathwik Poojary guided by Prof Rueben O D’Souza won the award for the project work entitled “Design and Development of Agricopter Drone”. It is worth noting that the Mechanical Engineering department of MITE has bagged this prestigious award for the second consecutive year.

Shri Rajesh Chowta, chairman, Rajalaxmi Education Trust, Mangalore, congratulated the students and staff and stated that the institution has been successful in creating state-of-the-art infrastructure with the vision of providing world class milieu for students and research scholars. The experienced faculties have been consistently providing motivation to the students in achieving milestones incompetitions of such magnitude.

In developing countries like India the pesticides and insecticides are manually sprayed, which has adverse effects on the nervous system of human beings and more than one lakh deaths are reported every year. The present work will help the people to spray pesticides on crops without manual involvement. It reduces the direct handling of pesticides by human beings and thus protects them from fatal effects of pesticides. Also a very large area can be covered by this drone in comparison to manual spraying.

The students project programme (SPP) is one of the important programmes of KSCST which involves the students and faculties of engineering colleges in projects oriented towards the solutions of developmental problems. The 42nd edition of SPP this year witnessed an enthusiastic participation of 305 students from around 109 engineering colleges across the state.The team emerged victorious in the contest evaluated by a panel of eminent jurors specialized in various technological domains.

Dr G L Easwar Prasad, Principal, Dr C R Rajashekhar, vice - principal have marked their appreciation for the students on their remarkable achievement.
