Udupi, Jun 7: “The central government should provide scholarships for post graduate students in Kannada just as it does for Sanskrit students”, urged Prof Muralidhara Hiriyadka, president of the Udupi taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan.
The Sammelan was organized at the Shankaranarayana Samaga Vedike in the Poet Arunabja Hall of Shankaranarayana Temple on Saturday June 6.
“The central government has given traditional recognition to Kannada language. But there are so many works related to the development of this language that need to be done. So the Kannada education system should be promoted on a large scale”, said Muralidhar Upadhya Hiriyadka.
“Scholarships for Kannada post graduate students will help promote the language and its development”, he said.
Prof Hiriyadka added that poets and scholars are helpless stating that Nobel Prize recipient and Burmese scholar Ang San Su Ki is in jail.
He said that the dream of scholars can only come true through politicians who are the law makers.
Inaugurating the Sammelan, Dr V S Acharya, state home minister, said that there is a difference in the government statement regarding compulsory education in Kannada in fourth standard in primary schools.
The Sammelan also had a ‘Kavi Gosti’ and ‘Kavya Gana Kuncha’ as well as an exhibition of books. The Sammelana began with the Bhuvaneshwari procession with poets, scholars, and the guests.
