Mysore: State Government Sanctions Rs 50 Lac to Konkani Christian Sangh

Mysore, Jun 1: The city-based Konkani Christian Sangh has been actively working for the welfare of the Konkani Christian community and for the betterment of the society for the past 28 years.

On the occasion of the first anniversary celebrations of the state BJP Government under the leadership of B S Yeddyurappa, the Minority Development Corporation, which has recognized the efforts being made by the Sangh to improve the lot of the Konkani Christians here and activities being undertaken by it for their benefit, has sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 lac by way of financial aid for the construction of a Samudai (Konkan) Bhavan (community hall) at Vijayanagar 1st Stage here.

The first installment of Rs 15 lac was released by the government at the Vijay Sankalph Utsav on May 31, 2009.  Gracian Rodrigues, president of Konkani Christian Sangh, Mysore, collected the amount.

The Samudai Bhavan is a project worth four crore rupees and people of all communities will have an opportunity to reap the benefits of the Bhavan for their social and cultural activities.

    Something is fishy indeed. Yeddy is throwing a few bones to buy the community''s silence. He had sanctioned quite a big sum to maintain temples earlier. We need to stand neutral. Neither us nor anybody. Development, infrastructure, education, employment is first - communities can sustain themselves.

    Something is definetely fishy here. I have not heard of the Karnataka government giving any aid to Konkani christians in Mangalore or anywhere else in the costal areas. So why some unknown organization in Mysore? How many Konkanis reside in Mysore really: 100, 1000? 10000?

    I agree with jennifer, what is more important to us is not samudaya bhavan. we want our places of worship to be protected. Dont blame the community in the name of conversion. Mr. Yeddi it is your govt. ruling here. Take action on the people who have made forcible coversions, dont blame the whole community.

    Please stop this religion based grants. How will a Samudai Bhavan serve the public ? It is incorrect to provide funds to a particular community from taxes collected. Do not use taxpayers money for pilgrimage subsidies, or grants for maintaining places of worship. Instead, protect places worship of all communities, punish those who cause damages. So that incidents will not be repeated, perpetrators will feel their responsibility towards society.
