Bengaluru, Jan 15: The long-standing demand for an American Consulate office in Bengaluru is finally being fulfilled. The consulate office will commence operations on January 17 at the JW Marriott Hotel in the heart of the city. This development will enable residents to access US visa and related services within Bengaluru, eliminating the need to travel to neighbouring cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, or Mumbai.
The JW Marriott Hotel, which already houses the United States Commercial Service (USCS) office, will temporarily host the consulate. Meanwhile, the state government has identified potential permanent locations in areas such as Whitefield, where IT and BT companies are concentrated. Until the US officials finalize the permanent site, the operations will continue at the JW Marriott Hotel, sources revealed.
The establishment of the new US consulate in Bengaluru offers significant benefits for residents. Currently, thousands of Bengaluru residents travel to cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, or Mumbai for US visa-related services. With the new consulate, Kannadigas can save considerable time and money, as all US visa and related services will now be conveniently available within the city.
For years, the demand for an American Consulate in Bengaluru has been growing due to the inconvenience faced by residents traveling to other states for visa services. The establishment of the consulate is expected to cater to the needs of thousands of individuals, including IT and business professionals, students, and families.
US ambassador Eric Garcetti expressed enthusiasm over the opening of the consulate, stating that it marks a significant step in strengthening Indo-US ties and enhancing accessibility for Bengaluru residents.
This new addition is poised to bring immense relief to Kannadigas and marks another milestone for Bengaluru as a global city.
