Mangaluru, Jun 24: St Aloysius BEd College observed the feast day of its Patron Saint on Monday, June 24.
The theme for the celebration was, ‘it is better to be the child God than a king of the whole world’.
Fr Cyril D’ Mello SJ, director, St Aloysius Industrial Training Center, Mangalore, was the chief guest. In his address he said, “St Aloysius Gonzaga had an extraordinary mindset and behaviour. This young nobleman confronted objections from family members from becoming a religious. Yet he was clear in his thoughts and determination of becoming a religious. His life portrays uncompromising one’s own convictions and not sacrificing personal integrity for the sake of others. Aloysius showed maturity beyond his age. He was unambiguous about his choices and priorities, obviously motivated by God centered goal in the pursuit of holiness.’ The chief guest further said, our mind, heart and body should be healthy and sound always like St Aloysius. We should think positively and act normally in any given situation. We should develop a large heart to be able to control our emotions and accept the reality of the time. We need to maintain healthy body-it means free from diseases and being capable of serving for others.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Farita Viegas, principal, said, “St Aloysius is the model for the youth and the teachers. Teaching is not merely a profession, but a vocation. The values upheld by Aloysius like, selflessness, inspirational, potential, compassion etc., are helpful for teachers to remain in touch and association with the students.”
