Mangaluru: Saplings distributed among students at Canara English Higher Primary School

Mangaluru, Jun 22: The tree lovers (TTL) Mangaluru, with the help of forest department gave away 425 saplings to students of Canara English Higher Primary School, Dongerkere.

Two weeks ago, an awareness program with a presentation on environmental issues and how to protect the environment was conducted for the students of the school by Rohan M Shiri who is a member of TTL.

During the presentation, Shiri asked children if they would be interested in planting and maintaining a sapling around their house. In response, all the children were more than happy to say yes.

The children were told to give the sapling a name, just like how we give beautiful names to our pets. Teachers took the initiative of asking parents if they are willing to support the children.

After approval from parents, 425 saplings where given to students on Saturday, June 22 at the school premises. Children were educated as how to plant the sapling and take care of it for next two years till it turns into a little tree.

Children were asked to pet name the sapling and click a photograph with it after planting it.

The program was organised by TTL- Mangaluru. Arjun Mascarenhas, Dilip Vas, Daniel tauro,Rohan Shiri, Maithili, Vinod Alva,and Rupesh Shetty were few of the members of TTL who were present.

The programme was coordinated by headmistress Kavita Maurya and Kavitha Shetty who are part of the teaching faculty at the school.

TTL extends special thanks to deputy conservator of Forests Dr V Karikalan and range forest officer P Sridhar who provided beautiful saplings of fruit bearing and other unique species.
