Udupi, Jun 22: International Yoga Day was celebrated on Friday, June 21 at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi in the St Mary’s Auditorium.
As many as 803 students and 55 staff members participated actively in the programme. It was graced by the principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira and the vice principal Rita Quadros. Bhaskar Kotian, physical instructor, accorded a cordial welcome.
The programme was inaugurated symbolically by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. Manjula Blazo spoke on the importance of this day and how it came to the limelight when Yogacharya Dr B K S Iyengar brought it to the common man. Vice principal Rita Quadors delivered the message of the day and encouraged the students to practice yoga everyday to maintain a healthy mind and body.
The students presented a yoga dance inclusive of various asanas. A student group of yoga enthusiast demonstrated the different and difficult asanas with grace and poise as Helen Cornelio narrated the benefits derived from each asana. A general session was conducted by Manjula Blazo on simple asanas for all students and teachers.
The vote of thanks was rendered by Renuka Acharya, physical instructor and the programme was compered by Dhrithi of class IX.
