Puttur, Jun 21: NCC, Sports, Rovers and Rangers unit of St Philomena PU College organized International Day of Yoga on June 21 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall.
Dr Chethana Ayurveda and Yoga Consultant, City Hospital, Puttur reckoned many benefits of rising early and practicing yoga. She also pointed out the contribution of yoga in maintaining fitness and good health. She also said that pranayama teaches breath awareness and helps to maintain energy, strength and relieves stress.
Chief guest Fr Dr Antony Prakash Montheiro, campus director and chairperson of PG Studies said that while all exercise offers physical benefits, yoga is unique. Not only does it provide preventative mental and physical benefits, but it also teaches breath awareness.
Lt Johnson David Sequeira, NCC officer, Harshad Ismail, Rovers Scout leader, Prakash D'Souza and Rajesh Moolya, physical directors coordinated the programme.
Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, Fr Sunil George D'Souza and Sr Flora Machado wardens of boys and girls hostels were present on the occasion.
Pranamya C A (II PCMB 'A') demonstrated different asanas on the occasion.
Fr Vijay Lobo, principal welcomed the gathering. Dr Asha Savithri, Hindi department rendered the vote of thanks and compered the programme.
