Udupi, Jun 9: A tourist who was swimming at Malpe beach faced the risk of getting washed away by the waves. Sensing the grave danger the young tourist was facing, the lifeguard staff at the beach jumped into action and rescued him. The incident happened on Saturday June 8 morning.

The rescued tourist has been identified as Masood Pasha (28) from Bhadravathi. He had reached the beach in the company of several of his friends on Saturday and the group began to swim. The sea has been a little choppy since the last couple of days. It is said that the youth was dragged away by powerful waves. Madhukar Salian and his team, functioning as lifeguards, immediately rescued him.

Those managing the beach said that as a precautionary measure, like in last year, a protective fence with the help of nets would be erected all along the edge of the beach to stop tourists from entering the sea. This measure is planned as the sea becomes tumultuous during this season.
