Mangaluru, Jun 9: The police, who arrested Sandeep Rathod (23), a native of Benakotagi Tanda in Sindagi taluk, Vijayapura district from Sindagi on Saturday morning in a joint operation along with the police personnel of Sindagi, have gathered information that Sandeep killed Anjana with whom he was madly in love, as she refused to marry him.
The police could zero in on Sandeep as his cell phone number was found stored in the mobile phone belonging to Anjana Vasista.
Anjana and Sandeep knew each other well and had intimate relationship. However, she had refused to marry Sandeep, it is said. On this issue, the two fought on Friday morning, which culminated in the murder of the lady.
Anjana, a resident of Tarikere, had completed her M Sc degree course through a college at Ujire. She had got to know Sandeep through Facebook, it is claimed. While Anjana had come here for training relating to banking examination, Sandeep had come here to get trained for the examination for the post of police sub-inspector. Both had together hired a room behind KMC Hospital Attavar by claiming themselves to be husband and wife.
The police have recovered a Karimani chain from the accused. He reportedly is reiterating that he had married Anjana. Further probe alone can bring out more details, the police said.
The police also revealed that the room where the two stayed is not a paying guest accommodation as reported earlier, but a rented room. It is one among six rooms which the family has rented out to people.
