Mangaluru, Jun 8: In respect of the murder of Anjana Vasista (22), daughter of Manjunath Y N from Tarikere in Chikkamagaluru district at a paying guest facility extended at a house behind KMC Hospital Attavar on Friday June 7 evening, the police investigation has succeeded in getting some additional information.
Anjana had completed her MSc degree through an educational institution at Ujire. She had come here to attend banking examination training being held at a coaching centre here, on June 2. She was accompanied a man known to her and the two had falsely claimed themselves to be a couple, when seeking paying guest accommodation, it is said.
Police at the crime spot
Anjana had gone back to her native place after two days. Her companion contacted her over phone and convinced her to come back, it is learnt. She arrived in the city on Friday and was found dead the same evening. On the face of it, it looks like the man who lived with her would have killed her on Friday morning by tightening the television cable wire around her neck. After she breathed her last, he locked the door from outside and fled. The maid who cleans floor got suspicion as the door of the room in which the couple stayed was not opened the whole day. The door was broken open and it was found that the lady was murdered.
The police, during their continued probe, have identified the person who had hired the paying guest facility with Anjana as Sandeep Rathod. They have suspected the role of Sandeep Rathod from Vijayapura district in the said murder.
It is said that Sandeep Rathod had come here to undergo training for the post of police sub-inspector. The police are yet to find out whether Rs 15,000 withdrawn from Anjana’s bank account by using ATM card on the fateful morning was done by her or Rathod. There is information that Anjana who had seen the photograph of a boy her parents had selected for her, had given her nod and asked her parents that morning to move ahead in the matter of fixing her marriage. Therefore it is suspected that this could be the reason for her murder.
After they were informed of her death, Anjana's parents came from Chikkamagaluru but refused to vacate the mortal remains from the paying guest accommodation. They insisted on the arrival of forensic science experts to inspect the place of crime and check the things before the body is moved out. In tune with their demand, the experts came and scrutinised the spot. The mortal remains were moved out only thereafter.
The police have learnt that Anjana had been seen off by her father from Chikkamagaluru when she undertook her journey by bus on Friday. She had also informed her parents after reaching the city. Her parents were told her that she was here to attend a training programme and that she was staying at a paying guest facility.
Senior police officials visited the spot and guided the investigation. Pandeshwar police who have registered a case of muder, are undertaking further probe.
