Mangaluru, May 25: Principal of St Aloysius College, Fr Praveen Martis S J, along with director Mahamayi Cine Creations, Karopady Akshay Nayak, inaugurated the International Konkani Film Day at St Aloysius College, here on Saturday May 25.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Praveen Martis S J said, "International Konkani Film Day is organised for the first time. We are a college where Konkani is taught as second language. The young generation needs to carry forward the legacy of senior Konkani artistes. The young actors must come forward to promote Konkani,”
During the occasion, eminent personalities director Ramesh Kamath, director Richard Castelino, actor Ronald Rodrigues, producer Sevrino Fernandes were felicitated for their tremendous contribution to Konkani film industry.
Director Ramesh Kamath said, "Film is one kind of media which unites everybody. Producing a Konkani movie is not an easy task and we need guts to do so. We need lot of money to produce a decent Konkani movie which could go nearly to the tune of Rs 30 lac minimum. One who has love and affection for Konkani only can produce a Konkani movie."
A Konkani short film 'Urba', directed by Rajesh Shet, was launched.
Konkani movie planning Devachem and Aa Vai Za Sa movie were screened after the stage programme.
Coordinator Flora Castelino welcomed the gathering, Ashok Kumar Kasargod proposed the vote of thanks.
Director planning Devachem, Rajesh Fernandes, director Mahamayi Cine Creations and others were present.
