Kasargod, May 18: Activists of the CPM party which is currently ruling the state allegedly assaulted United Democratic Front (UDF) Lok Sabha candidate from this constituency, Raj Mohan Unnithan. Unnithan happens to be a Congress leader.
Repoll was ordered in four booths in the constituency on May 19, after the election commission was convinced about bogus voting by certain persons in these booths.
Unnithan was engaged in campaigning at Pilathara for soliciting votes for him when he became victim of alleged goondaism. UDF has accused the perpetrators of this attack as 'destroyers of democracy'.
A reporter of a private television channel, who was at the spot for covering the news, also came under attack.
Injured Unnithan has been hospitalized.
The people here are bothered by the politics of violence indulged in by the CPM in this constituency and perplexed by the question whether there is any end to it, said UDF supporters.
