Mysuru, May 17: The police raided a spot after getting information that demonetised currency notes were being exchanged there for new notes. When the police raided the spot, a man attacked them. He was shot at and he died on the spot.
The person who lost his life in this incident was Sukhvinder Singh from Mumbai. The incident happened opposite S V Residency Apartment at Ring Road Junction, Hinkal in the city on Thursday May 16.
Immediately after Sukhvindar lost his life, two others who were present there escaped. The police are trying to nab them. The police have taken into possession a car which was used by the accused and abandoned at the spot. It is learnt that the owner of the car is a resident of Mandi Mohalla in the city.
Inspector general of police (south), Umesh Kumar, city police commissioner, K T Balakrishna, deputy commissioner of police, M Mutturju and others visited the spot and surveyed the area. They gathered information about the incident from the police personnel. A case about the incident was registered in Vijayanagara police station here.
City police commissioner, K T Balakrishna, said that the police had visited the area to catch hold of the people who had come there to exchange demonetised notes with new ones. At that time, the accused tried to escape and one among them attacked the police. At that, inspector, B G Kumar, fired at him at which the attacker died and others fled. He said that the police are searching for those who escaped. He said that as per the guidelines of Supreme Court and National Human Rights Commission, investigation would be conducted into this death.
