Mangaluru, May 16: Virtually supporting BJP's firebrand Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Sadhvi Pragya's remarks on Mahatma Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse being a 'deshbhakt', BJP's Dakshina Kannada candidate and sitting MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday May 16 made a comparison between Godse and the killers of former Prime Minister the late Rajiv Gandhi.
Malegaon blast-accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is out on bail, called Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, a "deshbhakt" (patriot).
"Nathuram Godse was a 'deshbhakt', is a 'deshbhakt' and will remain a 'deshbhakt'. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within. Such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections," she said in Bhopal.
Taking to Twitter, Nalin said:
Ajmal Kasab was the terrorist who was hanged for his role in the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
The BJP was quick to condemn the Pragya Thakur's statement and asked her to give a public apology. "We completely disagree with her statement and strongly condemn it. The BJP will ask her why she made such a statement. It would be proper for her to tender a public apology for this objectionable statement," the party said.
However, the party's official stance on Pragya's Thukur's statement did not stop Nalin Kumar Kateel from making the above statement.
Nalin's tweet was met with ire by most who reminded him of the Gujarat riots, and some even took a dig at the MP over the long-pending Pumpwell flyover.
