Karkala, May 14: Well-known snake-catcher Anil Prabhu, popularly known as ‘snake’ Anil, is struggling to get back to his health after he was bitten by a snake last month.
Anil was trying to catch a Spectacled Cobra that was trapped in a net at Tellaru, near Kuntalpady on April 14. By the time Anil arrived the spot, the reptile had struggled its way out from the plastic net. When he tried to pull the net, the snake bit his forehand. But without stopping his mission, Anil succeeded to rescue the snake and later got himself admitted to Karkala Nursing Home.
The doctors at Karkala Nursing Home attended to Anil and got him shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru and he was later taken to Yenepoya Hospital for further treatment. Doctors succeeded to save Anil from death but the poisoned bite of the snake has affected Anil Prabhu’s kidneys. Decay has also started in his hand where the snake had bitten. Anil has already spent more than Rs 3 lac for medicine and treatment. Financially, he is not in condition to bear future medical expenses which will cross lacs. At the same time doctors have suggested that delay of medicines will pave the way for decay of other body parts too.
Anil Prabhu is famed for his missions for saving snakes straying into human inhabited areas in Karkala and Moodbidri. He has captured and rescued more than 1500 straying snakes. He has been bitten many times by venomous snakes and he lost his thumb years back to a snake bite. His efforts to capture venomous snakes from human habitations and to educate people about snakes and their behaviour are widely acknowledged.
In recognition of his services to the society and special skills to catch the reptiles, Forest Department used to summon Anil to catch snakes which accidentally enter human inhabited areas and later he would release the reptiles into the forests.
Putting his life in risk many times, Anil Prabhu has rescued people from the bites of venomous snakes. At the same time he has ensured the snakes were sent safely in the forests. But now Anil Prabhu’s life is under danger. Only generous people can save him and give him a new life.
The kind-hearted readers of Daijiworld and donors are requested by the family of Anil Prabhu to help him financially to bear the costly treatment cost in order to save his life. This will help Anil to get a second life and the strength to earn livelihood for self and family.
