Bengaluru, Apr 30: Malleshwaram police in the city arrested Rajesh Kumar Rai (27), a native of Samastipur in Bihar for submitting fake documents in order to secure a seat for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course in a college in the city.
According to the investigation conducted by the police, Rajesh Kumar Rai has indeed completed his MBBS course. However, he faked his marks card to get a higher rank in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG). Surprisingly Rajesh has performed well in the actual entrance test except for the marks he scored in MBBS.
Rai got a MD seat at the Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre on Hesaraghatta main road in the city based on the high rank he scored in NEET PG. He also attended the counselling on March 23 that was held at the office of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) and submitted the documents including the marks card. However, some days later the KEA officials were surprised when they received an anonymous mail which said that the marks cards submitted by Rajesh Kumar Rai are not genuine and urged the authority to have a double check on the same.
A complaint was filed by KEA official Shilpa with the Malleshwaram police suspecting a major fraud and racket behind the act of Rajesh. Upon examining the documents submitted by Rai, the police found that they were duplicate. KEA asked Rai to report to their office for verification of the documents on April 26. The police caught hold of Rai, when he reported to the office of KEA on April 26. As per the information given by the police, Rai has confessed that he has graduated in MBBS and also his scores in NEET PG are genuine but the marks cards are fake.
According to the police Rai said that he got the fake marks cards from one of his friend, who is at large now.
The accused Rai was produced before a magistrate and given to the custody of police for further investigation on the matter. The police and KEA officials are smelling something fishy and expect that a big network is behind this crime. The KEA officials have said that they are going to recheck all the documents once again of all the students to prevent any forgery of the similar nature.
