Shivamogga, Apr 30: Deputy commissioner of the district, K A Dayanand, through an order, has extended total ban on movement of vehicles on Agumbe Ghat road till May 15. The road had been closed between March 1 and 31 for road repairs including permanent repair work at places where the hillock has suffered landslides.
During the period of the ban, light vehicles like buses, jeeps, vans, light commercial vehicles, two-wheelers etc have to take Thirthahalli- Koppa -Sringeri-Mala Ghat-Karkala-Udupi road (NH 169). Heavy vehicles like luxury buses, Volvo and private luxury buses, bullet tankers, ship cargo containers and long chassis vehicles have to move via Thirthahalli- Mastikatte-Hosangady-Siddapur and Kundapur route.

The ban will be in force either till the completion of repair works or till May 15 whichever is earlier. The deputy commissioner has ordered setting up of boards to see that the road works are not hampered during the ban period. For the convenience of students of government school and SVS school at Agumbe, mini buses have been allowed to be run via Thirthahalli-Agumbe-Bidaragodu and Sringeri and ordinary buses via Thirthahalli-Kalmane-Heggodu-Ramakrishnapur-Kammaradi and Sringeri route.
