Mangaluru: Rain in various parts of Dakshina Kannada - more predicted

Mangaluru, Apr 30: A number of places within Dakshina Kannada district received welcome rain on Monday April 29. While Venoor in Beltangady taluk got light rains coupled with thunder, Dharmasthala, Mundaje, Nidle etc got some rains. Beltangady got light showers, while Madappady near Subramanya received good rain. Some other places around Subramanya too got some rain.

The city experienced sweltering heat during the day. However, during the late night, breeze brought the temperature down, helping the citizens to get a good night's sleep.

Scientist of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre, Sunil Gavaskar, said that cyclone Fani, which is currently a thousand km away from Andhra Pradesh coast, is likely to enter Odisha and West Bengal coasts by May 3. He said that because of the influence of this cyclonic storm, coastal Karnataka may get strong wind, thunder and rain on Tuesday too.

The meteorological department has predicted good monsoon rains this year. The monsoon would be normal as per its projections of 96% rainfall. The department said that the farmers can prepare for cultivation based on this prediction. The scientists of the department have brought smiles on the faces of the farmers of north Karnataka with their expectation of good rainfall there after a long patch of drought. The old Mysore areas will get near normal rainfall while coastal areas are predicted to get good rain. The rainfall this time would be better as compared to last year, the department stated.

Dr K J Ramesh, director of the department, said that the prediction is based on average of last 50 years and environment prevalent in the seas.

During the 24-hour period ending 8.30 am on Monday, Annigeri received highest rainfall of three cm in the state, with Dharwad registering one cm rainfall. Kalaburagi recorded highest temperature of 44.2 degree Celsius.

    We all need the rains very badly in every part of the state and cities. Already people are suffering with this sweltering heat and shortage of water. Many rivers have gone dry and the water levels in the dams is going down day by day. Right now we can pray to God we get as much rains as possible but without any harm to anybody.

    Without Modi govt approval nothing you can get till 23rd May including rain. On 23rd May DK is expecting hurricane and there will be good rain fall and whole atmosphere is going to be cool and calm.
