Bengaluru, Apr 28: Despite the unity in the Lok Sabha polls between the ruling Congress and JD(S) coalition parties and the apparent calm, trouble seems to be brewing in the Congress party that may affect the survival of the H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in the State.
The first indication of the trouble is the convening of a meeting of 'like-minded MLAs' by Congress MLA and Bangalore Development Authority Chairman S T Somashekar in the City on Tuesday (April 30) at Hotel Capitol to discuss the future political course of action.
Somashekar, has in a letter addressed to MLAs said "the present political situation in Karnataka is going in worst condition day by day".
In his letter, the Yeshwanthpur MLA, said the meeting of legislators was convened to discuss the present ongoing scenario and to find the solution to the issue.
He has appealed to MLAs to attend the meeting and “give their valuable suggestions without fail."
Somashekar called the meeting a week after the conclusion of the polling in 28 parliamentary constituencies in the State.
Many disgruntled Congress MLAs are likely to attend the meeting on Tuesday at Hotel Capitol, sources in the party said.
Somashekar, a loyalist of former Chief Minister and Congress legislature party leader Siddaramaiah, had blamed Chief Minister Kumaraswamy for poor development works in the City in January last.
However, the decision to hold the meeting was strongly opposed by party MLC G Raghu Achar. The MLC strongly opposed the meeting and said such meeting would send a wrong message to the people of the State.
KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao said Somashekar should have convened the meeting for the good purpose.
Meanwhile, K C Venugopal, All India Congress Committee General in-charge of Karnataka on Sunday called on Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy at a private hotel here and held discussions on recently held elections to 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State.
During the meeting, both leaders have also announced the candidature of Subhash Rathod (Congress) as its choice from the Chincholli assembly seat and Kusumavathi Shivalli (Congress) from the Kundagol seat, that goes to the by-polls on May 19.
