Mangaluru, Apr 28: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Kinnigoli deanery celebrated its silver jubilee celebration, in association with Lawrence D'Souza, a well-known singer, with ‘Sangeeth Sangam-2’ at Kinnigoli Church Grounds on Saturday, April 27.

Sabitha Monis, youth icon, an achiever, Fr Ronald D Souza, director, ICYM, Central Council, Fr Melwyn Noronha, parish priest, Pakshikere Church, and Felicia Monteiro, secretary, ICYM Central Council, graced the event as chief guests. Fr Rahul D’Souza presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Sabitha Monis briefed about the secret of her success in various fields and said, “In my childhood, I learnt to write letters from my siblings and I tried to write with the help of my foot. Noticing my physical disability, my teachers suggested my parents to admit me to a special school. I practiced to write in foot and continued it. My friends and teachers too supported me and I completed my matriculation with high marks. Soon after completing masters, I joined Alva’s Educational Institution as a faculty. In this journey, I faced many challenges and saw many hurdles. But I never looked back and did not discourage myself. Youths can take my story as an inspiration because I turned from negative to positive.”

In his speech, Fr Ronald said, “The past twenty-five years history of ICYM Kinnogoli narrates many success stories and achievements. Many leaders born in these twenty-five years have now spread all over the world. I noticed that many of them still remember the days they served ICYM. I salute the current members of ICYM Kinnigoli deanery. They are continuing the social service which their senior members started. Today, they have arranged this celebration for a cause. This shows how much they are committed to the society’s welfare. I congratulate all office bearers and youths of Kinnigoli for the successful completion of silver jubilee.”

Wishing the youths, Fr Melwyn Noronha said, “I am glad to see ICYM members of Kinnigoli deanery celebrating their jubilee for a cause. This happens very rarely. Only youths can hold these types of unique programmes. Jesus Christ also started his social life in young age. He transformed into a role model and a reformer of society. The members of ICYM also are walking in His footsteps.”
