Bantwal, Apr 24: A look at the way the members of 'Kutumba', a social welfare organization from Kalladka function, proves that when youngsters put in efforts to meet social-centric objectives, even individual villages can turn into welfare states.
Mention of Kalladka automatically makes people to think of some other activities. But Kalladka has young people and organizations who join hands to wipe tears out of the ears of poor people. One such organization happens to be 'Kutumba' based in Netla near Kalladka.
The only son of 65-year-old Dharnammajji from Pilinja near Netla near Kalladka had died a year back. This old lady had no one to care for or rely on. When her house faced the prospects of crumbling, the woman turned clueless about how to spend her remaining years of life. Because her house was the sole support system she had in her life. When she worried about the chances of her house giving way during this rainy season, members of 'Kutumba', who were alerted by the police personnel of Bantwal town station, came to the rescue of Dharnammajji.
The members of the group, numbering 55, joined hands in reconstruction of Dharnamma's house. They personally carried stones on their shoulders, built walls, and did other things which Dharnamma never expected them to do. Chandrashekhar, owner of Salian Services, and local panchayat member, Girish Kulal, supported this initiative. Under the guidance of Bantwal town station sub-inspector, Chandrashekhar as well as beat police, Nagaraj K and polcie constable, Chennappa Gowda, the group worked to restore the house that was about to crash.
Dharnamma is performing house warming ceremony symbolically on Wednesday April 24, supported by religious rituals. A regular house warming ceremony would be organised on April 28 by inviting donors who made the reconstruction of the woman's house possible, said president of 'Kutumba' group, Dhananjay Gundimajalu.
This group was started with the objective of rendering selfless service including keeping Netla temple clean.
Uniqueness of the group: This group is formed by a team of selfless youngsters who work in Goltamajalu and Netla areas to eke out a living. Dhananjay Gundimajalu is its president, while Dinesh Kedla is the vice president, with Gopalakrishna Gundimajalu and Purushotham Golthamajalu serving as secretaries. No political interference is allowed in the group, and it works on the principle of a sense of belonging without allowing caste considerations to sneak in. The main guiding principle of the group is unity and belonging, and its purpose is to serve without any monetary consideration.
Undertaking cleanliness drive in public places, cleaning of religious centres, providing blood to needy patients even if they cannot be supported financially, environmental protection, helping families in villages living in abject poverty, helping students from poor families, working in liaison with government departments to help poor families to get benefits of government schemes, and working to help people during natural calamities, are some of the objectives of this organization.
Conditions: The group has certain rules. When serving under the banner of the group, the members need to wear the prescribed uniforms without fail. During the service, they cannot use mobile phones. Maintenance of discipline, behaving respectfully and decently with women and family members, are some of the conditions the members have to follow.
House with a new look
Dharammajji's house now has a new roof, new toilet, and newly painted walls. With all basic facilities, the house is being handed over to Dharnammajji. The organisation believes in serving people without any show or publicity. It wants to contribute to the good of the society. One can wish that organisations like this will continue to flourish, serve the society and keep rendering such good deeds on a regular basis.
