Mangaluru, Apr 24: Indian authorities are finding it tricky to bring underworld criminal, Ravi Poojary, to India for subjecting him to trial in various cases, from Senegal in West Africa where he has been presently detained.
The state home ministry had said in February that it has been making efforts to bring Ravi Poojary, arrested on January 19 this year at Senegal after finding him to be using a fake passport, into India. The state home department is grappling with the need to prove the identity of Ravi Poojary as Poojary has been claiming himself to be Antony Fernandes, a citizen of Burkina Faso.
Ravi Poojary faces 97 cases in Karnataka most of which relate to posing death threats, and running an extortion racket against businessmen. He also faces cases of murdering Shylaja and Ravi of Shabnam Developers within the limits of Tilak Nagar police station limits on February 15, 2007 at Bengaluru. The state home department had asked National Crime Bureau at New Delhi to issue red corner notices against Ravi Poojary.
It is said that police personnel from both Karnataka and Mumbai are trying to obtain DNA samples of Ravi Poojary's sisters living in New Delhi to prove his identity. The external affairs ministry has already sent details of cases and red corner notices pending against Ravi Poojary to Senegal.
