Udupi, Apr 24: A deep sea fishing boat which had set sail from Malpe port here, sank near Goa - Malvan on Tuesday April 22 afternoon. The ill-fated boat was 'Sri Saisiddi' owned by Roshini S Kunder from Malpe.
Fishermen aboard this fishing boat, identified as Nagaraj, Honnappa Ganapathi, Manju, Rama, Sadashiva and Pandu, all from Uttara Kannada district, have been rescued.
‘Sri Saisiddi’ boat had left Malpe on April 16 night. It was engaged in fishing at about 40 nautical miles off Goa Malvan when those in the boat felt something hitting the bottom of the boat. Thereafter, water began to gush into the boat, and its engine stopped functioning. Two other boats which were engaged in fishing nearby, 'Vayuputra' and 'Shubhashaya', rushed to the rescue of the fishermen facing peril, and succeeded in their objective.
Even though efforts were made to pull the boat ashore, these efforts did not succeed. Including about 8,000 liters of diesel, net and fish catches in the boat, total loss to the owner has been estimated at Rs 80 lac.
