Mangaluru, Apr 23: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil instructed the concerned department to release water from AMR dam to Thumbay vented dam and a decision will be taken by looking at the availability of water stored in the dam. Water rationing system will be withdrawn simultaneously.
BJP MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Bharath Y Shetty along with a delegation met deputy commissioner on Tuesday, April 23 to discuss on the water crisis in the city.
BJP MLAs urged the DC to withdraw the water rationing system as there is enough water available in the Thumbay vented dam.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, "We have asked to release water from AMR dam to the Thumbay dam and depending on the availability of water storage in the dam, the decision will be taken on water rationing system on April 24.”
He also clarified, "The process of water rationing system started on April 18 for the purpose of preserving of drinking water for use after May 15. If there is no rain till May 15, then there is a possibility of water crisis in the city. After the release of water from the AMR dam to the Thumbay dam, if the water storage level raises to six meters, then the decision will be taken to withdraw water rationing system.”
MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Bharath Y Shetty also urged the DC to provide water for high zone areas and also find alternative solutions like activating existing open wells and borewells.
The DC assured all kind of preventive measures to resolve water crisis and also instructed officials to respond to the problems pertaining to water crisis.
