Bengaluru, Apr 21: The income tax officials, who conducted raids at various places on Saturday April 20, recovered cash amounting to Rs 4.5 crore including Rs 2.30 crore that was hidden inside the car stepney at Bhadravati in Shivamogga district.
The department said that their officers had got tip about money being transported to Shivamogga and Bhadravati from the city. "We stopped the vehicle based on this information and checked. We found Rs 2.3 crore rupees in the denomination of currency notes with face value of Rs 2000 each concealed in the stepney tyre. They said that out of each bundle of Rs 2000 containing 100 notes, the people entrusted with the responsibility of delivering the cash, had taken away two notes each from each of the said bundles on an average. They said during search in the places belonging to the person concerned later, a further Rs 60 lac in cash was found.
During the raids on two brothers who are involved with ornaments trade in Goa, Rs 30 lac in cash was found. It is said that one crore rupees was found inside the house of a bank employee, Arif Karnekar, said to be close to Bagalakote district in-charge minister, Shivanand Patil, at Vivekananda Nagar, Vijayapura.
