Shivamogga, Apr 16: The Election Commission poll flying squad conducted a surprise check and inspected belongings of former CM and Karnataka BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa, when he was boarding helicopter in Shivamogga to fly to Raichur.
The six-member team rushed to the helipad and checked the bags, in presence of a videographer. The BJP leader was not carrying any cash or valuables, and was allowed to fly soon after.
“The poll officials were just discharging their duty. There is no need to politicize the standard procedure,” said District BJP Unit General Secretary D S Arun.
On April 3, the poll flying squad had also checked chief minister H D Kumaraswamy's vehicle at a check post in Karehalli in Bhadravathi taluk. The officials after inspecting the vehicle noted the name of the driver and the registration number as per standard procedure and allowed CM to head towards Shivamogga.
In Shivamogga district, the poll officials have seized unaccounted cash of Rs 2.55 crore in various check posts, DC K A Dayananda told media.
