Mangaluru, Apr 12: In a complaint filed in Mulky police station, the owner of a fish transport pick-up vehicle has named project director of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) here, Samson Vijay Kumar, as being responsible for causing accident of his vehicle. He has said that is vehicle was involved with accident because of unscientific works being conducted on national highway 66.
The said complaint was made by the owner of the fish transport vehicle, Muhammed Rafique. His vehicle was carrying a load of fish from the city to Udupi when its tyre burst and the pick-up vehicle hit the road divider at around 2.45 pm on April 8, he said. The repair expenses of the wheel and engine worked out to about Rs 60,000. Fish load worth Rs 1.5 lac also went waste because of the accident, he claimed.
"Unscientific road work was undertaken at the the spot where the accident happened. Although complaint about this issue was made to the project director of NHAI many a time, he did not take any steps. Because of the callousness on the part of the highways department, my vehicle met with the accident. The loss incurred by me should be recovered from Samson Vijay Kumar," he urged the police in his complaint.
Rafique pointed out that he had paid tax when buying the vehicle and also paid toll charges at Suratkal toll plaza, when moving towards Udupi. He has asked the police to register case against the project director named above, get the road repair done, and to recover the entire amount spent on vehicle repairs from the said official. He said that the Supreme Court had observed in a verdict last year that in case accident happens in bad road, complaint can be registered against the person who laid the road and those who maintain it, as they are responsible for such an accident.
