Udupi, Apr 10: “The district is ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. We have made all required arrangements for peaceful elections,” said deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati on Tuesday, April 9.
Addressing media she said, “The work of adding candidates’ names to EVM and VVPAT machine in Kaup and Udupi constituencies is in progress under the supervision of BLE engineers, AROs, political party candidates and their representatives,”
“As many as 956 polling returning officer, 956 assistant polling returning officer and 1,912 polling officers have already been appointed. Second stage of training has been completed,” she added.

DC inaugurating the Election Awareness Center
“The government sanctioned Rs 48.91 lac for repairing polling booths and to provide basic infrastructure.
“As many as 25 Sakhi centers will be opened in the district which includes Byndoor constituency. There will poll for physically-challenged as well as for tribal community. Women police booth will also be set up,” she said.
The DC further said that 6,48,885 photo voter slips were already issued, and the remaining 1,31,503 voters’ slips will be distributed in two days.
“Udupi district was ranked first in the state in disposal of cases which were received through cVIGIL app,” the DC informed.
Model Code of Conduct violation cases
The DC said, “Cash seizer redressal committee seized a total sum of Rs 23,50,290 in 13 cases after Model Code of Conduct came into effect. Later on, the amount was returned after scrutinising necessary documents,”
“Around 15,821.56 liters of liquor was seized by police and excise department. Three trucks and four bikes, and other vehicles worth Rs 2,64,26,999 were seized,” she informed.
“Drinking water facility and meal arrangements have been done at all polling booths for election duty officials,” said the DC.
