Kalaburgi, Apr 3: Former state chief secretary and retired IAS officer K Ratna Prabha made her way into politics by joining Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.
The IAS officer, who was inducted in the presence of BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa, in Kalaburgi, told media that BJP was the apt party for her to fulfill her desire to work for people. She also said that she was inspired by the unique development work of PM Modi, especially the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and hence joined the party.
K Ratna Prabha was appointed as the third woman Chief Secretary of Karnataka in November 2017 by then chief minister Siddaramaiah. She retired in June 2018, after serving the state for 37 years.
Political analysts believe that Ratna Prabha’s induction in BJP will break the Congress stronghold in north-west Karnataka.
Ratna Prabha belongs to the Dalit community and has played a important role in bringing about a legislation that gives reservations in promotions to SC/ST state government employees.
Winner of Woman of the Year award from the American Biographical Institute Inc, USA in 1999 and 2000, Ratna Prabha is famous for her work in Hyderabad-Karnataka regions.
She was also the first woman District Collector of Raichur in 1991 and had launched the literacy campaign in the district.
Prabha clarified to media that she has not demanded any position in the party.
Speculations that Ratna Prabha will join BJP were making rounds ever since her retirement. However, she had vehemently denied and called them as mere rumours.
