Kundapur, Apr 1: Reasons which provoked a neighbour of Prashanth Basrur from here, who was employed at Munich, to kill Prashanth and inflict serious injuries on his wife with a knife, have remained mysterious. The German media has also widely covered this savagely act, which happened on Friday, known in the country a Holy Friday at around 7.15 am.
A 33-year-old youth of western Africa origin had stabbed the couple with a kitchen knife repeatedly after verbal altercation with them. The residents of the apartment complex where the couple lived have good opinion about them. The general opinion there is that Prashanth and his family lived peacefully without bothering anyone. Therefore, the issue which invoked the youngster's anger could not be comprehended immediately.

The police there said that the youth had kept a kitchen knife ready for the purpose. His act was clearly visible for people living in upper floors. After the murder, the youth threw the knife near the victim's head. They added that the injured couple was immediately shifted by ambulance to Augsburg University Hospital where Prashanth died sometime later. Smitha continues to be treated in the emergency ward.
Smitha's father, Dr Chandramauli, mother, Vidyadayini, brother, Sujay and his wife, left for Bengaluru on Sunday. They will await official communication from the department of foreign affairs there. Once the clearance is received Smitha's parents may undertake journey to Germany, sources added. Prashanth's mother, Vinaya, who used to live in the residence near Kundeshwar temple here, also has left for Bengaluru. Chandramauli happens to be a practitioner of Ayurveda stationed at Siddapur in the taluk.
The passport standing in the name of Vinaya has expired, and steps are being taken to get a new one at the earliest. Once this is done, she may leave for Germany along with Prashanth's brother, Prabhath, it is learnt.
