Mumbai, Jan 8: There is much happiness in corporate world following the BCCI’s decision to institute an inter-corporate event in the 50 and 20 overs format with Rs. 1 crore prize money for the winner in each of the two events.
“Definitely it’s a big boost to cricketers and hopefully we can field all our celebrity cricketers in the BCCI event.
“But the BCCI should also make sure that all the top players are free of commitments from playing for their states and India.
“There’s attractive prize money. Moreover the company will also get direct mileage when the top players are seen in action,” said Dilip Pinge, Deputy General Manager, Sports, National Aviation Company of India Ltd.
“If the BCCI’s inter-corporate event is meant to generate employment for cricketers and give exposure to the brand name then it’s a tremendous idea,” said Milind Rege, Head, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel.
“Jobs for cricketers in present times don’t jell with companies because they play for less than three weeks in a year. Today, apart from a few first class cricketers, many don’t have decent jobs.
“The BCCI’s concept is a great marketing of cricketers and the company brand that will get exposure on television. Probably we will start looking at employing cricketers all over the country,” said Rege.
N. Srikumar, Executive Director, Corporate Communications, Branding and Planning, Indian Oil said, “It’s a step in the right direction.”
