Mangaluru, Jan 6: Condemning the merger of Vijaya Bank with Gujarath-based Bank of Baroda , District Youth Congress has given a call for 'Mangaluru Bandh' on Thursday, January 10.

In a press meet held here on Sunday, January 6, Mithun Rai, president, District Youth Congress said, "Union government and MP of Dakshina Kannada district have betrayed us. They snatched our own Vijaya Bank and merged it with the Gujarat-based bank which is running under a huge loss. Nalin Kumar MP has surrendered our district to Narendra Modi. He is not yet ready to give a single statement on the merger of the bank. We strongly believe that he has played a major role in the merger of Vijaya Bank. Obeying the Gujarath lobby, he is trying to get good marks from Narendra Modi. Actually he has betrayed the people of our district and the community of the founders of the Vijaya Bank. Now the people of district want an answer from Nalin Kumar Kateel as to why he is sat quietly at the time of the decision of merging the bank."

"At any cost, we have to retain Vijaya bank which is our existence and pride. On January 10, we are requesting to people of the city to participate in the bandh and show our dislike to the union government. We invite Nalin Kumar Kateel MP also to participate in this. We will request the bus, hotel and shops to participate in this one-day bandh. The strike will start at 6 am and end at 4 pm," added Mithun.

A C Vinayaraj, Suhail Kandak, Santhosh Shetty and Jayakumar Shetty, were present.

The MD of vijaya bank is from Orissa
95% Mangaloreans donot have account in Vijaya Bank
Hardly any new bunts / Localities get job in Vijaya Bank ( currently most of them working are from North)
Most of the congis didnt support when there was a proposal to name Sundarram shetty on that particular road
Vijaya Bank was nationalised in 1980 itself

Now if you want to do Bharath Band for its merger , do you think you get any sympathy ? or do you think you are doing any great sacrifice to Mangalore ? Pappu and his brigade is becoming laughing stock

It is nationalized bank now, one must not bring community or pride of district. If that was case have must not have allowed it to be nationalized. I do not understand what difference it makes as long as my money with the bank is safe. Thing will change with time. And having so many banks and branches is no doubt a burden.

Simple solution guys. If you do not have a account shut up and carry on with work. If you have a account then withdraw all money, keep minimum balance, break all FD's transfer funds to another bank like Karnataka bank. I Have already done that. Infact about 5 accounts were closed by my family. This is the answer we can give. Why to giive our money to gujju????

Can somebody tell me how will things change after the merger?
It was a Govt owned bank before and it will be govt owned bank even after merger.
The cheque book may not have the word 'vijaya bank' written.
But the policies were same after the nationalization. there was no difference between a vijaya bank or any other bank.

So much love for Vijaya Bank. We should be proud of it.
But hey , wait a Minute.

Weren't these the same guys ,who objected the naming of the light house hill road after the vijaya banks founder?
They had the Arrogance to even claim that , if people want let them name a road in mulki.

In the 70's when Vijaya bank was forcibly converted from private bank to a govt owned, none of the congress guys protested. why?
Because it was indira gandhi who did it?
Now, it has only been merged. Nobody loses any jobs.

From the 70's, except the name, everthing else was in govt control.
So all this false tears is of no use.

There were proposal of merger of nationalized banks creating into only five big banks in the country by chidambaran then FM of UPA government .Due resistance form trade unions in banking industries and large public opinion against this, so the earlier government kept this proposal of merger in abeyance.
Now the present government having some ulterior motive taken this step.even by rewards to the chairman and managing director BOB by extending his tenure after retirement age. the secret is that NIrav modi having big bad loan accounts in two of these banks dena bank and BOB. Moreover government also appointed new governor of their choice so that 25% of RBI reserve-fund can be transferred to government treasury easily
But as per my opinion calling BUNDH in Mangalure for this issue is not correct step by the congress youths.

I don't think that Bandh will solve this problem. Our representatives have failed. And DK people are suffering by giving our valuable votes. Like we expected something from Modij by hearing his speech in 2014 and we have losed most of our happy days.

Our State Karnataka has founded highest number of successful banks and supported business of so many people across the country.
But due to the merger, many of our banks existence, performance and glory will be buried under the logo of outsiders banks. If at all merger was necessary, our Karnataka founded banks should have merged with our banks, why Bank of Baroda?
The kind of co-operation and treatment we were getting from our banks will never get from others banks.
