Udupi, Dec 18: "During the period I was MLA and minister, I never got an opportunity to take part in Tipu Jayanti celebrations. I feel that perhaps God had planned not to allow me to do so," former minster and MLA from here, Pramod Madhwaraj, is seen saying in a video clip that has been shared on social websites.

Pramod Madhwaraj made this statement during the golden jubilee celebrations of St Peters Church at Petri, Brahmavar recently. "Tipu's army had raided Petri Church and destroyed it, as per history books. It was built again later. I do not know whether the state government was right in deciding to celebrate Tipu's birth anniversary. But I did not get to take part in its programmes," he can be seen saying in the said video.

Even when the then Siddaramaiah-led government took a decision to celebrate Tipu Jayanti, Pramod Madhwaraj had not expressed open support to the decision. He did not take part in Tipu Jayanti celebrations organized by the district administration between 2015 and 2017. Discordant notes had been heard within the party then about his non-participation in the government programmes.

    Dear Abdul Jabar! No where in the History books crime against Christians is documented therefore HIS crimes against HUMANITY went un-noticed. All that history talked about is his WAR and DEFEAT with by the British.

    Christians aren't looking for sympathy - Poor/Brave Christians are in heaven - that's all it matters NOW. They have forgiven Tipp's crimes - why bring that up to score a political point??????????






    todays Christians are NOT angree at/with Tippu foe they see the greater good Tippu did to get rid of the British.

    In Pakistan, Tippu is celebrated not because he fought the British, but because he beat up non Muslims and forcefully converted many to bend towards Mecca. Our enemy knows our history better.

    This statement of Ex MLA Pramod Madhwaraj shows more inclination towards BJP keeping in view of Lok Sabha elections.
    Perhaps Mr. Madhwaraj doesn't know that 'Tipu Jayanti' is started by BJP in the past and the tall leaders of the party then attended the function with much fanfare.
    As far as flawed history books of this days only give us distorted views. He really needs to revisit history by reading British Gazette records of those days.
    Tipu Sultan is the last stumbling block for British Raj in south India. In 200 years of ruling British Colonials Starved to Death 60 million-plus Indians. If the history of British rule in India were to be condensed to a single fact, it is this: there was no increase in India’s per-capita income from 1757 to 1947.
    Churchill, explaining why he defended the stockpiling of food within Britain, while millions died of starvation in Bengal, told his private secretary that “the Hindus were a foul race, protected by their mere pullulation from the doom that is their due.”
    Mr.Pramod Madhwaraj keep your political ambitions open. Don't bring the God's in politics.

    Madhwaraj is not into your comparison game. people know better and people will be taught better. Today because of Tippu a nihilist totalitarian culture is slowly taking ground which is built on upmanship or supremacy of a particular race at the expense of others. that is what was maifest in Tippu. The real game is to undermine or comouflage this danger to other cultures by our pseudos.

    In 1984 indian army entered Sikh holiest shrine GOLDEN TEMPLE to oust

    separatist who fight against India. Indian Army eradicated militants , golden temple

    dameged and rebuilded through KAR SEVA.

    Tippu attacked not all Christians. Only those who helped British army.
    He was not communal. Sri Ranganath TEMPLE is in vicinity of his palace. Check SRINGERI temple documents., how much he donated.
    Now it is only reason to hate him is he was muslim..!

    Mr pramod if you want to join BJP ,you are free to do that.

    Before 2019 elections we should have census of how many Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs along with the others were there in D.K and Udupi Districts in 2015 . We also need the population as of 2018. If u add or minus which is the FAITH that is multiplying .

    Actually support of Tippu made people loose

    1) Sanjay Khan produced & directed Sword of Tippu Sultan - Mysore Premier Studio caught fire, 19 people died, Sanjay Khan himself somehow survived 4th degree burns
    2) Vijay Mallya purchased Sword of Tippu Sultan in an auction in London and we all know of his position now and what state he is in.
    3) Tippuramiah oops Siddaramiah who started Tippu Jayanthi lost the May 2018 Assembly polls, his party Congress became 78 from 123 seats, Siddu lost his own well nurtured seat of Chamundeshwari

    We celebrate someone's birthday or not, it will not make any difference. May be Tippu Sultan was also not in favour of birthday. The three incidents, you have mentioned were according to destiny. For example,
    1. Sanjay Khan produced & directed Sword of Tippu Sultan. He can think that he survived in that major incident, because of giving respect to Tippu.
    2) Vijay Mallya purchased Sword of Tippu Sultan in an auction in London. He has bought many other things related to Tippu. He can think that it is lucky for him. But, everything according to his destiny.
    3) Siddaramiah who started Tippu Jayanthi lost the May 2018 Assembly. He is enjoying his retired life. The people, who was opposing are still opposing.

    it is very much clear that Tipu killed innocent chritians, hindus & torchered them to convert to islam, destroyed the churches, temples. he was communal. how can one support those kind of people. we respect APJ Kalam, celebrate his birthday instead of tipu. if the samething happened with you then will support him?

    Me and all my Hindu Muslims Christian classmates studied in our school which taught us that Tippu was a great warrior and was honoured by the title Tiger of Mysore.If Tippu Sultan had butchered Christians as being said , why wasn't it taught in the schools and why were we taught the opposite. What has changed about Tippu Sultan since the school days in 80s and 90s.?
