Kasargod, Dec 16: Paivalike Anna Thamma Jodukare Kambala, the event, which was in doldrums due to the protest of PETA against the conducting of the event, took place eventually on Saturday, December 15 without the use of stick.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), had urged the deputy commissioner to prevent the Kambala event accusing that the buffaloes are being abused in the event. The district administration gave verbal instruction to conduct the Kambala without the use of stick.
"The folk culture and traditions of Tulunadu are a model to everyone. Effort should be made to preserve and take this to the next generation," said, Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji, seer of Odiyoor Sri Gurudevadatta Sansthana, who gave his blessings during the inauguration of the event.
The event was inaugurated by Rangathre Arasa of Paivalike palace. Brahmashree Urmi Vasudeva Nalluraya Tantri lighted the lamp. The programme was presided by Bharati J Shetty, president of Paivalike gram panchayat. Eminent persons like P R Shetty, Chetana, Harish Bhandray Kowdoorubeedu, Dr Jayaprakash Narayan Thottethodi, Sridhar Shetty Mutta, Shamshad Shukoor and Abdul Majid were present.
Harish Shetty Kadambar, chief secretary of the committee welcomed the gathering. Vishwanath Gowda, organizing secretary rendered the vote of thanks. Ashwath Poojary Lalbagh, chief convener, compered the event.
